John David Bowman, IV, 78, of Westminster, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Sunflower Hill Assisted Living.
Born January 21, 1947, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late John David Bowman III and Ida Margaret (Nailor) Bowman.
John earned his bachelor's degree from Towson University. He spent most of his working career as an industrial engineer, retiring from Penguin Random House after 34 years of service. Not being idle, John went to truck driving school and became a driver for Southern States where he made many friends. When he was done driving trucks, he cleaned offices in the evening to support his golf habit. John was a man whose greatest pride and joy was his family. He dedicated his life to loving, supporting, and guiding those he cherished the most. John enjoyed coaching softball, bowling and golfing. He was an avid sports fan especially of the Ravens and Orioles. Above all, he loved his family get togethers and spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving John are his cherished daughters Amy L. Cupp and husband Gary of Westminster and Beth A. Sherwood and husband Tyler of Everett, PA; grandchildren Andrew Cupp and wife Emily of Finksburg, Courtney Wagner and husband Derek of Hampstead, Caleb Enoff of New York, Reese Sherwood, Chase Sherwood and Kade Sherwood, all of Everett, PA; great grandchildren Story and Enzo Cupp, and Addysen, Brantley and Jamison Wagner; brother Joe Bowman of Hagerstown; brother-in-law John Hayward of Beaufort, SC; loving companion Christina Vaughan; best friend and golf buddy Mike Stonesifer; loving family at Sunflower Hill; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Jen Hayward and grandson Carsen Guyer.
The family will welcome friends on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, from 2 pm to 4pm at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster. A memorial service will begin at 4pm.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to: Dementia Society of America P.O. Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901.
