John Paul Boyce, 42, of Rivesville, WV, passed away on August 14, 2024, surrounded by his
loving family, covered up with his favorite Dukes of Hazzard blanket, prepared to take a
heavenly ride in the General Lee.
John Paul was born on October 18, 1981, in Warren, Ohio, to John A. Boyce and Patricia L.
Boyce. He was preceded in death by his father, as well as his grandmothers, Cora Sue Cross,
Luanna Baugher, and grandfather, John W. Boyce. He is survived by his mother, who took care
of John Paul until the very end with an unshakeable bond that cannot be measured; his two
brothers, Lewis A. Boyce and James (Jamie) K. Boyce; his sisters-in-law, Rachel A. Boyce and
Danielle D. Boyce; his nieces, Alexandria P. Boyce and Layla J. Boyce; his nephews,
Brendan T. Boyce and Quentin I. Boyce; his aunt, Jacqueline K. Porter; and cousins.
Words can hardly begin to describe the young man behind the orneriest grin most of us have
ever seen. John Paul was born with Cerebral Palsy, a neurological disorder that affects a
person's ability to control their muscles and movement. However, that did not stop him from
living his life and driving everyone around him crazy with an unmatchable stubbornness and
diabolical sense of humor.
Following in the footsteps of one of his favorite movie characters, Han Solo, who famously said
"Never tell me the odds!", John Paul was his strongest when it was said that something could
not be done. He began teaching himself from a young age how to read from television shows
such as Sesame Street, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy. He learned to type with assistance
from a speech pathologist at the age of 12. Finally, in 2000, John Paul graduated Fairmont
Senior High School with Honors, utilizing the tools available for assistive learning and
technology present at the time.
His strength, determination, compassion, wit, intelligence, and the will to withstand and endure,
should be lessons for everyone to implement in their life. John Paul will be missed by all those
who knew him but knowing that he is at home with our Lord and able to walk and run is a
comfort that we will keep with us each day. The family is asking in lieu of flowers that donations
be made to assist with the cost of arrangements by donating to Treasured Memories at http://www.tmcfunding.com/funds/john-paul-boyce/11071/
John Paul's ashes will be laid to rest beside his grandmother, Cora Sue, with his family and
close friends present.
