John Braly Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home, Corsicana on Jan. 11, 2026.
John Wade Braly, Sr., 96, passed away on January 11, 2026 in Corsicana, Texas. He lived most all of his 96 years in Barry, Texas.

He was born on December 14, 1929 to John and Anna Clay Crouch Braly. He was the oldest of four siblings and the only son. He was a man of integrity who loved his family, agriculture, the Barry community, his friends, basketball and Hershey's Kisses. He attended school in Barry along with his three sisters, Pat, Naomi, and Billie Jo. In 1955, he married Marcia Lou Bell, and they began their life together in Corsicana where he served in the National Guard for seventeen years. He left the service when "jumping out of a perfectly good airplane" was required. He then worked for Stewart Motor Company and Mobile Oil before returning to farming. John and Marcia Lou were married for several years before their children Glyn and Wade were born. He served the Barry community first as a city council member and then as the mayor for 28 years. He also served on the SCS board in Corsicana, volunteered at the NCYE and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. John loved the Lord and was a member of Westhill Church of Christ. He was a wonderful husband, father, Big Daddy, and Uncle Bubby. He was always inquisitive about each family member and loved them all dearly. He always looked forward to when all would gather at the farm in Barry for Thanksgiving.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 55 years, and his siblings. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Glyn and Steve Phillips, his son and daughter-in-law, Wade and Kristi Braly, granddaughters Katy McConal and husband Sean of China Spring and Kaylee Nicholson of Athens. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Tatum, Teagan, Luca, and Elijah and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also leaves behind his special friend and caregiver, Lois Ballard.

The family would like to thank Heritage Oaks, Hand in Hand Hospice, and Valerie Eldridge for the compassionate care.

Visitation will be at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Corsicana, Texas on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 1:15 p.m. Burial will follow at Dresden Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews and great nephews.
