John R. Brannock Jr., commonly known as Bob to his friends and family, passed away peacefully at home on February 15, 2025, in Clayton, DE, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on March 24, 1947, in Wilmington, DE, Bob's life was marked by his selfless loving nature, his handy skills, and his wonderful sense of humor.
Bob was a proud veteran of the Air Force, serving his country with honor and dedication. After his military service, he continued to work as a skilled diesel mechanic, a profession that allowed him to tinker and solve problems, which he loved dearly. His work ethic set a shining example for all who knew him.
He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Linda H. Brannock, and a loving father to his daughter, Barbara Lynn Moore and his daughter, Carrie L. Brannock, whose memory he held close to his heart. His love and memory will stay forever with his cherished grandchildren, Logan J. Brannock, Austin L. McLamb, Lorene J. Naylor, Alyssa N. McLamb, Lindan J. Naylor, and his great-grandson, Jackson R. Borji. Each of them carries a piece of Bob's spirit and love with them for the rest of their lives.
Although his time at the University of Delaware was brief, Bob's commitment to service led him to enlist in the Air Force in response to the Vietnam War.
An avid hobbyist, Bob found joy in making model cars, a pastime that reflected his love for automobiles. He was also known to dabble in RC planes and boats, though they rarely survived his enthusiastic test runs. His garage was his sanctuary, a place where he could be found tinkering with various projects, always improving or fixing something. His passion for cars extended to his love for fixing them, a skill he was always happy to share with others. One of his greatest joys was showing off his projects to anyone that would lend an ear.
Animals held a special place in Bob's heart, and he was known for his kindness to all creatures, great and small. His several cats and his 2 dogs, Jax and Luna, will miss him dearly, especially all the late night snacks that were shared.
His love for sports was undeniable, with a particular fondness for Alabama football and the Baltimore Ravens. Bob's enthusiasm on game days was infectious, and his family fondly remembers his playful banter when someone was supporting the opposing team.
A true John Deere enthusiast, Bob's admiration for the brand was evident in his meticulous care for his equipment and the pride he took in using it. His love for bass fishing provided him with countless hours of relaxation and reflection, as he enjoyed the serenity of nature and the thrill of the catch.
Bob's love for cars was matched only by his love for desserts. His sweet tooth was legendary, and he never passed up an opportunity to indulge in a delicious treat. His family will miss the twinkle in his eye as he enjoyed his favorite desserts. Especially hearing him say his famous quote, "There's no such thing as something being too sweet."
Bob had the true gift of gab and could strike up a conversation with anyone. Whether he was reminiscing about the good old days, sharing details about his latest project or simply chatting about life. His stories were always filled with humor and wisdom, you couldn't help but be captivated by what he was saying.
Bob's life was a testament to the values of humor, handiness, and enjoying the simple things in life. He touched the lives of many with his kindness and his willingness to lend a helping hand. Bob had a beautiful outlook on life and an innate ability to see the good in every single person. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we say goodbye to John R. Brannock Jr., we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, laughter, and the simple pleasures that make life worth living. Bob's memory will continue to inspire and guide us, and his spirit will forever be a part of the lives he touched.
