On June 15, 2024, the world lost a remarkable soul with the passing of John Thomas Briggs at the age of 94. His life, filled with love, hard work, and devotion to his family, will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

John was born on August 9, 1929, in Person County to Johnny and Bertha Briggs. He worked for many years in the trucking industry for Associated Transport and Burlington Industries. Through his dedication and strong work ethic, he not only provided for his family but also served as an inspiration to those around him. Described as a fantastic father and a man of his word, John lived by the values of honesty and integrity. He adored his beloved wife of 75 years, Sara Blalock Briggs, who stood by his side through thick and thin. Together, they shared a love for bluegrass music and frequented bluegrass festivals with their family.

John is survived by his three daughters, Donna Halsey (Lloyd), Jean Livesay (Keith), and Kathy Baxter (Steve); his grandchildren, Lisa Brewer, Sunshine Wilson, Steven Martin, Chad Briggs, Ashley Quiminer, Caitlyn (Chase) Albright and Seth Livesay; great-grandchildren, Katelyn Brewer, Haleigh Brewer, Skylar Martin, Avery Martin, Cade Briggs, Nolan Briggs, Tyler Brewer, Jaxson Albright and Karsyn Albright; a brother, Bernice Briggs; and his sisters, Cleo Slaughter and Annette Pruitt.

John was predeceased by his wife, Sara, and his parents, as well as his brothers Norman Briggs and Ben Briggs, and sister Loretta Jones.

The family will receive friends from 12:45 – 1:45 PM on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory. A celebration of John’s life will follow at 2 PM on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Belmont Baptist Church Cemetery.
