John Thomas Brightwell, 69, of Youngstown, FL passed away at his home in the arms of his loving wife on Sunday August 31, 2025.
John was born 12/28/1955 in Ozark, Al. He lived most of his young life in Dothan, AL, and the rest of his life in the Panama City, Fl area. He was a Carpenter by trade but sold electric motors and welding Supplies for many years.
Having been the son of a Softball Commissioner, John was always at the ballfields playing sports. He was a good athlete from the start. In 1969 he played on a State Champion Dixie Boys All Star Team which came within one game of winning the World Series. He played High School Football at OHS as a Wide Receiver and several other positions if needed. He played some Semi-Pro Football. He went on to be one of the founding members of the "Lok Nuts" Softball Team where he led the team in Home Runs each year he played. He loved Weightlifting and Power Lifting. He served time in the Army and National Guard.
Once he met his loving wife, Caramon, and they were a couple for almost 43 years. They moved to the Beach area, and he then was able to do more things that he loved like enjoying the Beach and Saltwater activities. He loved riding and racing Motorcycles, Hunting, Fishing, and spending time with his close friends. He was always making you laugh.
About every person that knows him has a funny story to tell. A Celebration of John's Life and his Life with Caramon will take place at their home on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 12:00 P.M.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Thomas and Betty Sue Brightwell; his sisters, Cindy Kirkland and Michelle Quattlebaum; brother, Teddy Brightwell; and father-in-law, Beamon Sims, who are all from Dothan, AL.
Left to treasure his memory are his wife, Caramon Sims Brightwell; mother-in-law, Patricia Sims of Dothan, AL; sisters-in-laws, Rexanne (Mike) High of Columbus, Ga, Renae (DJ) Sims of Carrolton, Texas, and Heather (Johnnie) Hobbs of Dothan, AL; several nieces, nephews, and close friends.
