John F. Brooke

John F. Brooke, age 96, a cherished educator, historian, and family man, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2024, in his hometown of White, GA, where he also was born on November 13, 1927. Remembered as a pillar of wisdom in his community, John dedicated three decades to shaping the minds of young people with the Cherokee County Board of Education. His commitment to service was marked by his time as a U.S. Army Veteran, his tenure as a Scout Master, inspiring generations of youths to strive for excellence and his 65 year membership with the Waleska Masonic Lodge #57 F&AM.
John's passion for history was evident in his active participation with the Cherokee County Historical Society and the Bartow County History Museum. His deep-rooted faith was exemplified through his role as a Deacon at Heritage Fellowship. Beyond his public contributions, John was happiest in the tranquility of his garden and surrounded by the love of his family, who will dearly miss his guidance and love.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Brooke; son, Randall Brooke; and parents, John N. and Mary Emma Brooke. John is survived by his daughter, Melanie Brooke (Dave Reihm); three grandchildren, Morgan Campey (Kyle), John Donaldson and Chad Donaldson; five great-grandchildren, Chuck Taylor, Liam Donaldson, Lairyn Campey, Graham Campey and Carter Donaldson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2024 at Heritage Fellowship with Rev. Justin Bishop, Chaplain Greg Hall and Rev. Nathan Brandon officiating. Interment will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Sosebee Funeral Home on Sunday, May 5, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The Gideons International, Heritage Fellowship, Cherokee County Historical Society or the Bartow County History Museum.
