John S. Brookover, Jr. of
Chester Springs, PA died peacefully on January 6, 2026, surrounded by his family following a long illness.
Born in 1942 in Downington, PA, he was the son of J. Shartle Brookover, Sr., a millworker, and Elizabeth Blake Brookover, a teacher. As a youth, he developed a lifelong love of sports, especially the Philadelphia Eagles and Philadelphia Phillies, as well as his passion for building and racing cars. He enjoyed summers at the Ocean City, New Jersey beach with his family and loved a good round of golf, no matter how frustrating it could be.
Mr. Brookover attended Lehigh University where he met Sharon L Bassett, a nursing student at a psychiatric hospital in nearby Bethlehem, PA. They married in 1964, the weekend after Mr. Brookover graduated with a degree in finance.
He went on to have a distinguished career in information technology working for Black & Decker, Honeywell and Iron Mountain before establishing his own consultancy,
Mr. Brookover's kind and gentle demeanor belied the moniker, The Bear, given to him by his Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity brothers at Lehigh University.
He was devoted to his wife of 63 years, as well as their children, John S. Brookover, III, Cynthia Brookover Walsh and Kristin Brookover Biggs. Their home in Exton, Pennsylvania was the setting for festive gatherings of friends and family alike, especially during the holidays.
Mr. Brookover was equally devoted to his children's spouses, Jeanne Brookover and Jamie Biggs, and his grandchildren, Thomas "Tommy" Walsh, Emily Rossetti, Matthew Walsh and Louis Rossetti.
Mr. Brookover is predeceased by his two sisters, Nancy Beil and Barbara Brookover, his brother in-law, Dr. Arthur Beil, his sister-in-law Barbara Bassett, his son, John S. Brookover, III and his grandson, Thomas "Tommy" P. Walsh.
A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m., Friday, January 23, 2026 at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown. Family and friends will be received from 4:15-5:15 p.m.
Interment will be private with the family.
