John Gregory "Greg" Burnette, 68, passed away January 19, 2025 at his home with loved ones by his side. Greg was born December 30, 1956 in Chatom, Alabama to John and Edna Burnette. He attended school in Chatom until the death of his mother in 1970. After the death of his mother, he moved to Thomasville Alabama where he graduated from Thomasville High School in 1975. Greg was very sports oriented and was an outstanding football player both in high school and college in Arkansas.
Greg started his working career as a Liberty National Insurance Salesman. He later followed in the footsteps of his father and became a Tow Boat Captain for Warrior and Gulf in Mobile, AL. After working for W&G for 20 years, he then worked for Cooper Marine until the present. He was known as Captain Greg to many and he cared about his coworkers and those under his supervision. Greg was a hard worker and had very strong work ethics.
Greg loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them every chance he could. He met no strangers and was a friend to all. He was definitely one of a kind. If you knew him you loved him, he shared the best stories and kept you laughing,
If there could be a summary of the things Greg loved most in life it would be: love of work, he loved navigating the river and being Captain Greg. He loved Alabama Football and he and his Aunt Dot Wall spent hours in discussion about THE TIDE. Even at a loss, Bama was then and will always be #1.
Most importantly, Greg loved Wanda, she was the very love of his life. They shared over 37 years of a true love story. She was always his "Beautiful".
Greg was preceded in death by his father, John J Burnette; mother. Edna Broadhead Burnette; uncle, Earl Ray Broadhead; and special niece, Suzanne Nicole Fredriksen.
Greg is survived by his wife Wanda Kay Adams Burnette, daughter Andrea Joy Swemley (Steve), 2 granddaughters Kirsten Eve Swemley and Gabrielle Kay Swemley. One sister Beverly Burnette Carpenter (Jimmie), Niece Courtney Moorer Taylor (Charlie) 2 nephews Delton Charles and Garrison Chase. One Aunt Brenda Pettis Broadhead.
