John J. Burns

John J. Burns, 90, of North Port, Florida (formerly of Port Reading, NJ), passed away at his assisted living residence on Saturday, November 15, 2025.

Born in Jersey City, NJ, John was a lifelong resident of Port Reading prior to retiring to Florida in 2022. John honorably served in the United States Army and upon returning home, began his 43 year career with the United States Postal Service, retiring in 2002. He was later employed with Ray Catena Auto Group as a courtesy vehicle driver. John was proud to be one of the founding members of the Port Reading First Aid Squad and was also an honored Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus with the Don Bosco Post 5809. John will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be deeply missed.

John was predeceased by his wife in 2013, Lois Burns along with his parents, Bernard V. and Mary Burns. Surviving are his children, Susan Atallah with her husband Jimmy, Eileen D'Angelo with her husband Salvatore and Allen Burns with his wife Karen; grandchildren, Justin D' Angelo, Caitlyn D' Angelo-Chesney with her husband Kyle, Timothy Atallah, Jacob Burns and Daniel Burns along with great-granddaughter, Capri Chesney.

Funeral services will begin at 8:45am on Saturday, November 22, 2025, from GERITY & CHUBENKO FUNERAL HOME, 411 Amboy Avenue, Woodbridge followed by a 10am Mass of Christian Burial at St. James R.C. Church in Woodbridge. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 4pm to 8pm at the funeral home.
