Devoted husband of nearly seventy years to Dorothy Burns (nee Keane).
Loving father of Margaret (Rich) Brom, John Jr. (Nancy) Burns, Patricia (Gary) Laga, Mary Lu (Christopher) Waas, Edward (Pam) Burns, Jeanne (John) Kett, Nancy (Thomas) Roudebush, Paul (Ret. CPD) (Michelle) Burns, Michael (Cheryl) Burns, Maureen Burns, Eileen (Michael, CFD) Rowan.
Loving son of the late John and Mary Burns (nee Goggin), brother of the late Elizabeth Caponera (nee Burns), brother-in-law and cherished friend of the late Gabriel Caponera.
Dearest Grandfather of Rev. Joseph SJC, Paul (Annie) and Chris Brom, John Burns III (Kristie), Maura (Taylor) Wilson, Shannon (Michael) Klaric and Kathleen (Michael) Castellanos, Steve, Michelle and Megan Laga, John "Jack", Matthew (Karen), Emily (Christopher Wypijewski), Caroline (Hans Erickson), Daniel, Alanna and David Waas, Eddie Burns II and Kelsey Elizabeth Burns Hosseini (Ahad), Ethan, Charles and Mary Eileen Kett, Lucille, Andrew, Jane, John, William and Bridget Roudebush, Jennifer and Matthew Manual and Michael Burns, Grace, Evelyn, Sophia and Holly Rowan; Great-Grandfather of Emmett and Avery Burns, Henry Castellanos, Kian and Shayda Burns Hosseini, Makayla Manual and Drew Weger.
Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Cherished friend and neighbor to generations of St. Gabriel parishioners.
We were blessed with Jack's "unique" sense of humor, top notch drumming skills, and unwavering faith. Through the intercession of St. Josemaria Escriva, he modeled a simple yet profound way of life: God, Family, Work; In that order. Blessed are we to witness such a life well-lived.
The family will receive friends at McInerney Central Chapel, 4635 S. Wallace, Chicago, IL 60609 on Friday, March 6, 2026 from 3-8pm. Funeral Saturday, March 7, 2026 with chapel prayers at 9:15 am at the funeral home to St. Gabriel Church, 600 west 45th St. Chicago, IL 60609 for a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial. Interment St. Mary Cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL.
