John Franklin Burris, 77, of Indianapolis, passed away with his wife by his side on Saturday, June 21, 2025. He was born on October 3, 1947, in Meridian, Mississippi, to the late James Portland and Julia Irene (Neal) Burris. John went on to marry the love of his life, Terry Lynn (Dougherty) Burris on July 20, 1985.
John was a graduate of Broad Ripple High School, class of 1962, and went on to serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a Specialist 5th Class (SP5), Army Security Agency Cryptologist. He returned to the United States and attended Purdue University where he studied Electrical Engineering.
John spent his career at AT&T, where he was a High-Speed Data Design Engineer, retiring after 47 years of employment. He enjoyed sailing and body building. He will be most remembered as a loving father and proud United States Veteran, who served his country honorably.
Survivors include his loving wife of 39 years, Terry Lynn Burris; daughter, Brittany Irene Litt; sons, Cody Alexander (Anna) Burris, Shane Austin Burris and Justin Charles (Lucinda) Burris; brothers, Paul (Albert) Burris, David Burris and Timothy (Deanna) Burris; sister, Patricia (Brian) Wagner; and grandchildren, Josslynn, Trey, and Fiona.
Family and friends will gather on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral Home, 1458 S. Meridian St., Indiana. A close friend and fellow veteran, John Jones will deliver a eulogy at 2 p.m. followed by John's daughter, Brittany, who will share a prayer. All are welcome to join the family after at Acton Cemetery for the burial with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions be made in John's name to the Wounded Warrior Project, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
