John Edward Carles, a devoted family man and dedicated public servant, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2023, at the age of 82. Born on September 22, 1940, John led a fulfilling life, leaving behind a legacy of love, commitment, and service.
John's professional journey spanned four decades, during which he served with unwavering loyalty and dedication in the US Air Force and the Department of Defense. His commitment to his mission ran deep, and he made invaluable contributions that helped keep the nation safe.
Outside of his professional life, John's true joy lay in his family. He cherished his wife of 59 years, Judith Carles, and their bond was a testament to enduring love and support. John’s children, Christopher Carles and Kelly Carles-Kinch held a special place in his heart, and he took great pride in both.
John's family circle extended to include his dear daughter-in-law, Terri Wordie, and his son-in-law, Michael Kinch. Their love and support greatly enriched John's life. He also adored his four grandchildren, Grant, Sarah, Adam and Tyler, whose presence brought immeasurable joy to his life. This joy was amplified with the family addition of his granddaughter in law, Elisha and great granddaughter Eloise.
Among his many interests and hobbies, John found solace and satisfaction in gardening and landscaping. John and Judy embarked on numerous travel journeys, enjoying the different cultures and landscapes of America.
John Edward Carles will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, and a cherished friend. In honoring his memory, let us carry forward the values John held dearly: love, commitment, and service. May his legacy inspire us all to cherish our loved ones, pursue our passions, and make a positive impact on the world around us.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Judith Carles; his son, Christopher Carles; his daughter, Kelly Carles-Kinch; his daughter-in-law, Terri Wordie; his son-in-law, Michael Kinch; his four adored grandchildren; Tyler (Elisha) Carles, Adam Carles, Sarah Kinch, Grant Kinch, his great granddaughter Eloise Carles and sister Judy Mitchell.
A committal service with military honors for John Edward Carles and Judith Claire Carles will be held at 10:00am on Friday March 21, 2025, at the Dayton National Ceremony in Dayton, Ohio. Family and friends are invited to attend as we honor their lives and legacy.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on September 23, 2023. Friends, family, and all whose lives were touched by John are invited to attend and celebrate John’s life and his impact on those around him. The celebration will be held at the Carles residence, 4299 S. Observatory, West Chester OH 45069 from 1:00 to 5:00pm. Beverages and light hors d’oeuvres will be served and consider the dress to be casual.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Hospice of Southwest Ohio at www.hswo.org/donate/.
John Edward Carles will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
