John Joseph Carr, age 81, of Millsboro, Delaware, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025.

Born on February 28, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, John was the son of John Carr Sr. and Rita Carr. He grew up in Philadelphia before residing in Tucson, Arizona, and eventually making his home in Millsboro, Delaware, where he enjoyed living near the water.

A proud veteran, John honorably served his country in both the United States Army and the United States Air National Guard for over 30 years. He carried with him the discipline, strength, and dedication that military service instilled, and he remained proud of his service throughout his life.

John also worked as a warehouseman for Sears and later as a bus driver for SEPTA in Philadelphia, where he was known for his hard work, reliability, and strong work ethic.

Outside of work, John enjoyed fishing, collecting guns and knives, and finding peace by the water. He was happiest when surrounded by family and friends, sharing stories, and enjoying the outdoors.

John is survived by his loving wife, Anne; his children, Kevin and Shawn; two grandchildren; and his brother, Joseph. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Sr. and Rita Carr, and his siblings, Dennis Carr and Linda Carr-Simpson.

A funeral Mass will be held on September 2 at 12:30 p.m. at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, 30839 Mt. Joy Rd., Millsboro, DE 19966, followed by interment with military honors at 2 p.m. at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE 19966.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association.

John will be remembered for his devotion to family, his love of the outdoors, and his dedicated service to his country. His presence will be deeply missed, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
