Obituary of John Patrick Casey
John Patrick Casey of Burlington, MA and Naples, FL passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday July 10, 2024. He was 79 years old. John was a man of service. He served his country, community, church, and family.
John was born in Cambridge. He was the son of Irish immigrants, Patrick and Catherine Casey. He grew up in Arlington in a home filled with strong Catholic values. He graduated from Matignon High School, Class of 1963 followed by Boston College, Class of 1967. After his graduation from Boston College, he enlisted in the Marines. With his education, leadership, and administrative skills he quickly rose from Private to Sergeant while he was stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He served two years during the Vietnam War and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. After his service, he went on to earn his master's degree in business administration from Western New England College. He began his career working at Honeywell as a purchasing manager. He worked for several technology companies before ending his career as Director of Operations at Tyco in 2010.
John was a man of service and fully dedicated to his loved ones, companions and community. He coached youth sports and played basketball and softball with his coworkers and friends. He also volunteered at the food pantry. He was a longtime member of St. Eulalia Church where he married his wife, Carol, and brought his children every Sunday. John served as a member of the Parish Council for many years before becoming President, was a member of the Finance Council, served as a Eucharistic Minister, and ran Appreciation Nights for Church volunteers. John and Carol facilitated St. Eulalia's Pre Cana program for 21 years. They shared their wisdom, experiences, and challenges with engaged couples preparing to be married in the Catholic Church.
John was a devoted husband, supportive and caring father, and a fun, loving Papa. John and Carol embraced life together. They shared their faith with one another and built a strong, connected family unit based on love and respect. John loved Carol's family cabin on Forest Lake in NH. They loved to travel to warm weather destinations in the Caribbean until they purchased a retirement home in Naples, Florida in 2003. They loved the sun, reading a good book, walking on the beach, and socializing with their friends. As a father, he was always present, instilled strong values, wanted his children to be independent and to have a good education. He was a great source of advice and support. He simply wanted them to be happy. As a grandfather, Papa cherished every moment with his grandchildren. They gave him so much joy. John will be remembered as a man who placed others before himself and lived his faith daily. The love of his family was his greatest blessing.
John was the beloved husband of 53 years to Carol Anne (Pike) Casey. He was the loving father of Cheryl Banks & her husband Michael of Arlington, Jennifer Vitarisi & her husband Bruce of Reading, Michael Casey & his wife Lauren of Melrose, and Jaclyn Casey of Lowell. He was the brother of Mary Clarkin of Norfolk, and her late husband Leonard. He was the proud grandfather of Meghan, Ryan, & Caroline Banks, Brandon, Cara, & Nathan Vitarisi, and Raegan & Brayden Casey.
