April 16, 1932 – September 03, 2023

John Calvin Cato triumphantly entered Heaven on September 3,
2023 at the age of 91 after a life well-lived here on Earth. John is
survived by his wife of 63 years, Cecilia. Three children: Christine
Curtis (Scott), Matthew Cato (Cynthia), and Rebecca Riojas
(Randy). Seven grandchildren: Blake Curtis (Genevieve), Hayden
Curtis, Cale Curtis, Monte Cato, Dimitri Riojas (Van), Giavana
Riojas and Stormy Riojas. Two great grandchildren: Rowan Curtis
and Thai John Riojas. John was born on April 16, 1932 in Gretna,
Louisiana to James and Beulah Cato. He was the youngest of his
siblings James, Gloria and Eulah. He left home and high school to
join the US Army, eventually to serve in the Korean War.

After returning from the war, he used his GI Bill to attend and
graduate from Southeastern Louisiana College in Hammond,
Louisiana with a degree in Business. On July 9, 1960 John
married the love of his life, Cecilia Kramme. They made their
home on Derbes Drive in Gretna, Louisiana and had a wonderful
life there for them and their children. In 1978, John moved his
family to San Antonio, Texas where they resided until his death.

John worked for H.B. Zachry Construction Company for 30 years.
His tenacious business sense, managerial skills, and project
development expertise enabled John to be involved in major
engineering projects all over the world. It was a stellar career with
countless accomplishments and connections with many valued
associates and friends worldwide.

His legacy in this world, his bravery, his love of family and friends,
and his brilliant sense of humor will all be deeply missed but will
live on in the hearts and memories of all who knew him.

A graveside service with full military honors will take place on
Friday, December 1, 2023 11:00 am at Fort Sam Houston
National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas.
