He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Poppa Sammons and Fannie; parents, and brother, James Vernon Childers;
Survived by his wife of 65 years, Helga Childers; children, Cecily Childers, John Norman Childers, and Brenda (Jeff) Robinson; grandchildren, Hailey Childers, and Blaine Robinson; and his loving church family at Our Savior Lutheran church.
John loved to travel. Him and Helga traveled all the time, from visiting Germany which was one of his favorite places to visit, to taking cruises, which they did at least times a year. When he wasn't traveling you could find him watching Fox News, a basketball game or the Atlanta Braves.
