Reflections of Life
for
JOHN CLIFTON CONAWAY
February 20, 1959, to November 16, 2025
"Well done thy good and faithful servant." (Matthew 25:21)
Mr. John Clifton Conaway completed his earthly journey on Sunday, November 16, 2025, after an extended illness. His unwavering faith in God ensures that he is now resting in the presence of his Heavenly Father.
Born on Friday, February 20, 1959, in Glenwood, Georgia, John was the son of the late Jim and Jessie Mae Tobler Conaway. He graduated from Wheeler County High School in 1978 and enlisted in the United States Army where he served eight years and obtained the rank of Seargent. He was stationed at several domestic U S posts as well as two tours of duty in Germany. After leaving the Army, John began his truck driving career with J. B. Hunt and retired after 25 years with Walmart Transportation.
John's greatest accomplishment and pride was his family. He had a heart for children and deeply loved his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He reveled in their accomplishments and cherished the moments he shared with them. John was a giant in their eyes. Losing John loss is immense, but his impact on them is immeasurable.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Jessie Conaway and his beloved son, Donte Conaway. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Conaway, his children, Courtney Stanley, Shane Stanley, Charmane Conaway, and Michael Powell, his thirteen grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He is also survived by his seven siblings, Mazell (Wallace) Spencer, Maxine (Marvin) Hall, James (Eva) Conaway, Johnnie Mae Conaway, Serita Conaway, Teresa Riggins, and Clara Conaway, his sisters-in-law, Polly Mackey, Ameda Walls and brother-in-law, Billy (Lula) Bess, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A celebration of John's life will be held at the Saint Paul AME Church, 7th Ave., Glenwood, Georgia, on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Saint Paul AME Church, John C. Conaway Scholarship Fund.
