"Big John" Crase, also known as "Johnny 9 Toes," has taken his final ride off into the sunset. Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on September 13, 1951, he left us on October 23, 2024, at the ripe old age of 73, proving that even the most stubborn of us can't argue with Father Time.
Known for his magnetic personality, John never met a stranger-or a sales goal he couldn't exceed. Starting as a file clerk in 1999 at Crossroads Roofing, he quickly roofed his way to the top, retiring as their #1 salesman. His secret? Perhaps it was his ability to shingle-handedly charm anyone into a deal.
At the Cathedral of Praise World Outreach Center, John's faith soared higher than any steeple. Outside of church, he was often found with the wind in his hair, riding his Harley with his friend and pastor Ron Dryden through the Americas. The most interesting places, he revisited with his wife, Suzanne, who was more than his best friend-she was his ride or die.
John is survived by his wheelie wonderful wife of 50 years, Suzanne Crase; his "daughter" Je'Neil Torres; sister Sharon Raymond; nephews Carl Eggleston, Steven Eggleston; niece Wendi Destea; sister-in-law Jeananne Mayabb, nephews, Chuck Mayabb, Daniel Mayabb, niece Shelly Bennett, and a convoy of great nieces, nephews, grandkids and friends. Leading the welcome committee in Heaven are his beloved grandmother, Minnie Adeline Garoutte, father, John Thomas Crase, mother, Doris Jean Taylor, and brother, Teddy Lynn Crase.
The last lap of Big John's earthly tour will be at John Ireland Funeral Home in Moore, Oklahoma, at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2024. The folks at John Ireland are gearing up to give him a send-off that's as grand as his tales.
If life is a highway, Big John rode it with heart, humor, and a touch of that Crase family stubbornness. His final pit stop may have come, but the stories of his escapades will keep cruising down the roads of our memories.
