John Danis Obituary
John Robert Danis, 67, of Belvidere, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026.
John was born on November 6, 1958, in Detroit, MI, the son of Bernard “Barney” and Rose (Catanese) Danis. He graduated from Guilford High School and went to work right away for his father’s business. John became the proud president and owner of Absolute Fire Protection and dedicated his life’s work to the family business. He was a longtime member of Mauh-Nah-Tee-See Country Club of Rockford and was also a member of the National Fire Sprinkler Association for many years. John was devoted to his Catholic faith as a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. He also served on the board of OSF St. Anthony Medical Center.
John had a special gift for collecting and fine arts organization. He was an active member of the Rolls-Royce Association and competed in the Jensen Interceptor Club. John also enjoyed shooting in the trap, skeet and pistol clubs. He loved to indulge in great food and company with his dear family and friends. John will be greatly missed.
Surviving relatives include his sister, Diane (Robert) Grismore; nieces, Daniell (James) Nehring, Jessica Grismore (Mike Horstmeier), Lindsey (Brandon) Lizer; great-nieces and nephews, Kendra and Adriana Nehring, Emily Grismore and Julianna Horstmeier, Grayson and Waylon Lizer. John will be dearly missed by his special friends, Rob Martin, Dick and Jannan Harms, Chris Coy, Tom Krupp, Ann Marie Sandberg, Steve Lundgren and Daisy. He is predeceased by his parents, niece, Emily Grismore & many aunts and uncles.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of UW Health Cancer Center in Madison, WI and to Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon, IL for their kindness and care during their time with John.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in John’s name to Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary, P.A.W.S. and the American Cancer Society.
Private family services will be held. Burial will conclude later in Scandinavian Cemetery, Rockford, IL.
