Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home on Dec. 28, 2025.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Raymond J. Danis, aged 99, on December 11, 2025. Born on March 22, 1926, in
Fall River, Massachusetts, Ray lived a life filled with dedication, love, and service to his family and community.
Ray was a proud veteran who served in the United States Navy during World War II, where he honed his skills as an aviation radio operator and was part of a heroic submarine spotter crew. His military service not only defined his early years but also instilled in him a sense of pride and commitment that he carried throughout his life.
Upon returning home, Ray found work at a local drugstore as a soda jerk, where he met his first wife, Rita Lessard. Together, they raised three children: Eileen, Jonathan, and Robert. Through determination and the support of the GI Bill, Ray pursued an education in pharmacy, passing his licensing exams with exemplary results. He enjoyed a fulfilling career as a registered pharmacist, notably serving as head pharmacist at Lakeville State Hospital before his retirement.
After the passing of Rita in 1984, Ray found love again with Mordina McClure (Batchelder). Together, they shared a peaceful life in
Raynham, Massachusetts, where Ray became actively involved in local politics and community service, notably advocating for senior and disabled housing and serving on the Raynham Library Board.
In addition to his public service, Ray was deeply passionate about music and golf. He was a dedicated member of the barbershop quartet, the East Coasters, and enjoyed playing various musical instruments. After retiring, he found joy on the golf course, making memories and friendships.
Ray's spiritual journey flourished after joining the Lakeville United Church of Christ, where he actively participated in the choir. He later became a cherished resident of the Hannah B.G. Shaw Home, where he continued to bring joy to others through music, tirelessly performing for fellow residents and serving as a representative for their concerns.
He leaves behind a rich legacy of love and laughter. Ray is survived by his children, Eileen Silvia of
Merrimack, NH, Jonathan Danis of
Hilton Head, SC, and Robert Danis and his wife Patti of
Williston, VT. He also treasured his stepchildren, Herb Batchelder and his wife Lisa, and Michael Batchelder and his wife Karen, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren within the Danis and Batchelder families, who will forever hold him dear in their hearts.
Ray was predeceased by his first and second wives, Rita and Mordina, his stepson John Batchelder, and stepdaughter Sheila Batchelder. He is remembered fondly by many friends and loved ones, including dear friends Debbie Nee, Mike Henderson, and the Donovan family, to name a few.
Funeral services for Raymond J. Danis will be held at a later date, with details to be announced. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Ray's remarkable life and contributions to their lives.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Ray's memory to the local charity of your choice or to support initiatives that enhance the lives of seniors in care facilities.
Ray lived a long, fulfilled life, cherishing every moment and every relationship. May he rest in peace.
