John Herman Davlin, 85, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2024, surrounded by his loving family in Katy, Texas. Born on November 5, 1939, in Easterly, Texas, to Herman Davlin and Myrna Alyne Wright Davlin, John lived a life defined by service, love, and dedication.
A Korean War veteran, John proudly served his country in both the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army, retiring after 20 years of honorable service. His dual-service career was a testament to his commitment to protecting his nation and upholding the values of honor, loyalty, and courage.
While on leave from the Marine Corps, John met the love of his life, Janice Faye Brast, in Houston, Texas. The two married and shared 61 wonderful years together, raising a family and creating countless memories until Janice's passing in 2021.
After retiring from military service, John pursued his passion for horses and became a skilled farrier. He attended school to earn certification as a farrier and also completed a Bachelor of Science in Business. John combined his love of horses with his entrepreneurial spirit, working as a farrier for many years, earning the respect and trust of horse owners throughout the community. He continued his work until moving to Katy, Texas, to be near his daughters.
John's life took him to many places, but he settled in Lampasas, Texas, where he enjoyed the quiet of rural living, and later to Grapeland, Texas to be closer to his sister, Barbara Ann Adams. Due to illness, he and Janice relocated to Katy, Texas, where his daughters cared for them in their final years.
John is survived by his three daughters, Teresa Davlin-Ingram of Gatesville, Elizabeth Davlin-Buchanan of Katy, Sylena Davlin-Badger of Katy; his cherished grandchildren, Robert John Guerrero, Kristopher Crisp, Michael Crisp, Randi Victoria Guerrero, Sara Crisp, Shae Battles, and Tessa Noel Badger; sister, Barbara Ann Adams of Houston; numerous nieces, nephews and friends who he adored. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janice Faye Davlin; siblings, Dorothy Luker, Billy Joe Davlin and Charles Davlin.
A memorial service to honor John's life will be announced at a later date.
John will be remembered for his deep love of horses, his dedication to his family, his pride in his country, and the profound love he shared with Janice. His legacy continues to inspire all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
