Karen Davlin Obituary

Karen Yvonne Davlin, fondly known by many as KK, of Livonia, MI passed away on September 22nd at the age of 82, after a battling Alzheimer's for several years. Born on November 26, 1941 in Detroit, to Horace and Vera Rettray, she grew up in Birmingham, MI, in a lively household with her three siblings, Gayle, Linda and Bobbie. Karen was always fun, quick, humorous and a very social person that just simply made people feel good.
She earned a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in Education and upon graduation, headed to Denver, Colorado for a big adventure. Karen accepted a job as a teacher at Bertha Hyde Elementary School where she met the love of her life, Ron Davlin, to whom she was married for 58 wonderful years.
Karen's accolades were many. She loved people and talked to everyone. She had the gift of making anyone feel comfortable and loved. She was an exceptional, caring teacher who made a difference in every child's life who had the privilege of being a student in her classroom. She was also an amazing seamstress; generous with her time and talents and always up for a project requested by one of her kids.
Karen was patient beyond measure, and the kindest person you'd ever meet. Her home was always filled with kids (her own and all others from the neighborhood). Everyone knew, Mrs. Davin's cookie jar would be filled with homemade cookies, her arms would be open for a hug, her laugh would be ready and her chip dip would be amazing!
Most importantly, Karen had strong faith in God and adored her family, which was her pride and joy. She was a dedicated and loving mother to her children and grandchildren and always there for sisters, who meant the world to her.
Karen is preceded in death by her parents,Horace and Vera, and brother, Robert Rettray, and survived by her devoted husband Ronald, children, Wendy (Scott) Baker, Todd (Jennifer) Davlin, Jody Davlin (Joe Maiorano), grandchildren, Kyle Baker, Lauren Baker, Jeff Davlin, Sarah Davlin, Marian Davlin, Luke Weigel, Michael Maiorano, Cristian Maiorano, and sisters, Gayle Wolf and Linda Rettray.

I worked with Karen for about seven(?) years, maybe more, and always enjoyed being around her. She was one of the nicest people I ever knew. The world has lost a winner.
