John Corey Obituary

Birmingham, MI – John "Jack" Corey passed away on November 24, 2025, surrounded by family. Born in Windsor, Canada, Jack lived a life devoted to service, community, and family.

Jack grew up in Windsor and Detroit, graduating from Catholic Central High School and the University of Detroit. From 1943 to 1945, he served in the Army Air Corps, maintaining Douglas A-20 bombers in the U.S., England, and France. His squadron supported the Normandy landings and the liberation of Paris, earning the Distinguished Unit Badge, the European Theater of Operations Badge, a Silver Star, and a Bronze Star.

After the war, Jack met Faith Sullivan at a church dance, and they married in 1951. Together they raised six children in Allen Park, Beverly Hills, and Birmingham, Michigan, remaining active in Holy Name parish and their community. Jack and Faith shared a love of travel, bridge, and dancing. He was also an avid bowler, golfer, and gardener, enjoying all well into his 90s.

Throughout Jack's life, he was known for his ability to build, fix, and maintain almost anything. When Jack's silver toolbox came out, everyone was assured the job would be completed without shortcuts, and with the security of knowing it was done right. Jack was also known for his loyalty to the Detroit Tigers. From March through September (and an occasional October), he rarely missed a game whether they were chasing a pennant or simply playing out the season.

Jack worked as an electrical engineer at Giffels Engineering and later General Motors' Fisher Body division, where he was respected for his precision and leadership. As a father, Jack raised six children and enjoyed participating in scouting, swim club activities, boating, and giving the children haircuts. As a grandfather, he taught the kids to bowl and play cards.

He is preceded in death by his parents William Leo and Mary Rachel (Nicholl) Corey; his brothers William, who is survived by his wife Mary, and James (Dolores); his sister Margaret "Peg" (Patrick Brazzil); his granddaughter Nicole; and his beloved wife of 71 years, Faith, whom he now rejoins.

Jack's legacy is carried on by his six children-John (Alice), Robert (Gay), Frederick (Germain), Patrick (Doris), Rosemary (David), and Thomas-along with eleven grandchildren (Nicholas, Allison, Jacqueline, Andrew, Scott, Spencer, Daniel, Faith, Rachel, Josie, and Kathryn), and two great-grandchildren (Lucas and Guinevere).

Family will receive friends, Friday, November 28, 2025, 4-8pm at A.J. Desmond & Sons (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward Ave., (btwn 13-14 Mile) Royal Oak. 248-549-0500. Funeral Mass Saturday, November 29, 2025 10am, at Holy Name Catholic Church, 630 Harmon St., Birmingham, MI 48009. Visitation at church begins 9:30am.
