John Tillman Deane

 

John Tillman Deane, age 80, passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on Wednesday September 6, 2023, at Atrium Health, Wake Forest Baptist (Comprehensive Cancer Center). Born in Portsmouth VA, he was the son of the late Jordan and Margaret Deane. He was also preceded in death by his precious infant son.  John was a US Airforce veteran and graduate of Piedmont Bible College.  He was an active member of North Point Baptist Church.  He taught Bible, History, and Music along with coaching basketball at Gospel Light Christian School in Walkertown, NC. He was loved and admired by his students, many of whom remained in contact with him.  He was also a minister of music at several churches throughout his life.  His beautiful voice and love of music gave him many opportunities to serve the Lord by leading others to worship.  He enjoyed playing golf, rooting for the Virginia Cavaliers, cooking and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patty Deane; 2 sons; John Deane of Winston Salem, NC and Chris Deane and his wife Lisa of Greer SC; 2 daughters; Tricia Thompson and her husband Kevin of Parrish FL; Stephanie Spoon and her husband Tony of Winston Salem, NC; one sister; Susan Barker and her husband Billy of Portsmouth VA; grandchildren; Mark Leach, Meaghan and Madison Thompson, Jordan and Emylie Deane, and Kaylin Spoon; great grandchildren; Parker, Sofie and Mila Leach; Nieces; Melissa, Lindsay and Emily. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 1:00pm at North Point Baptist Church at 4980 University Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.  Family will receive friends Friday, September 8, 2023, from 6:00 - 8:00pm at the North Point Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital.
