John W. Decker, II, 91, of Mehoopany passed away Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Shore Memorial Hospital, Somers Point, NJ. He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Marie Ann (Smith) Decker.
Born on May 16, 1933 in Mehoopany, he is the son of the late Ralph and Thelma (Hulbert) Decker.
John proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Throughout his career at 3M, spanning over decades, John started as a copy repair technician and retired as a plant manager.
He was a volunteer firefighter for over 60 years. John's commitment to firefighting was commendable, with memberships in various fire companies such as CHFD as assistant chief and fire marshal for district 6, Woodbury MN Fire Department, and FWM (Forkston, Wilmont, Mehoopany Fire Departments). He also served as part of the fire police for FWM.
John had a passion for helping others through his involvement as one of the original members of the Mehoopany ambulance service. He shared his knowledge and skills by instructing hunter safety courses for PA Fish and Game.
He is survived by sons, John W. Decker, Jr. and wife Ellen, Thomas Decker and wife Tina; daughter, Carolyn Evans and husband Tom; grandchildren, Matthew Decker and wife Jean Marie, Alexandra Decker and husband Jake, John Decker and wife Kelly, Stephen Decker, Ryan Decker; 5 great grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to attend John’s memorial service which will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 12:00PM from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73. W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657 with Pastor George Price presiding.
A visitation will be held from 10:00AM until the time of service on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John’s memory to the Wyoming County Cancer Society, PO Box 629, Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
