John Delman Taylor, 78, of the Hardin community (Jefferson County) passed peacefully from this life on November 25, 2021, at Trinity Village Medical Center in Pine Bluff from complications of Parkinson's disease. Born July 15, 1943, in Pine Bluff, he was the eldest son of Delman Taylor and Opal Harris Taylor and was preceded in death by both.
A 1961 graduate of Pine Bluff High School, he volunteered for and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1962-1966, after which he returned to Pine Bluff and married a fellow First Cumberland Presbyterian Church member, Carol Hoover Taylor, on December 9, 1966. He was a member of the church from childhood and served as an elder.
In their nearly 55 years of marriage, John and Carol shared many hobbies together, including raising tropical fish, trap shooting, and square dancing. They also traveled through much of the U.S., camping in their RV, often with John's mother, Opal, and friends in the Arkie Bell organization.
John spent his working career as a printing press operator and supervisor with Mid-America Packaging plant in Jefferson Industrial Park. His tenure there spanned several changes in plant ownership.
In addition to Carol, he is survived by a brother, Jim, and sister-in-law, Terry Bumgardner, of Winslow, Arkansas; a nephew, Jeremy Taylor, of Oakland, California; five aunts, Ruby Harris Atchley of Hardin, Emily Taylor of Rison, Anita Harris of Prague, Arkansas, Lottie Taylor of Sheridan; and Betty Taylor of Fayetteville; first cousin, Donna Harris Smith and her husband, Jerry Smith, who were John's neighbors and close friends; and many other first cousins.
Visitation with the family will begin one hour before a funeral service to be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 29, 2021, at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors at 807 S. Cherry St. in Pine Bluff. Reverend Michael E. Suttle will officiate. A brief graveside service will follow at Hardin Cemetery in the Hardin community at approximately 10:45 a.m. Messages for the family can be left on the Ralph Robinson & Son website, ralphrobinsonandson.com.
The family wishes to express its deepest appreciation for the caregivers at Trinity Village Medical Center.
The family asks that masks be worn while indoors at the funeral service.
