John David DeLorme

John David DeLorme, lovingly known as "Papa D," passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025, at the age of 69 in Rochester, New York. He was a longtime resident of Spencerport, NY, and most recently, the warm, witty heart of a close-knit family who cherished his gentle wisdom and irrepressible sense of humor.

John was a man who lived life intentionally, reflectively, and with compassion. A lifelong learner and analytical mind, he worked for decades as a research and development engineer, where his creativity and technical brilliance led to a host of patents, spanning innovations from Kodak printer technologies to medical equipment. He was deeply proud of his work, not for the accolades, but because he believed in solving problems that mattered.

It was his soul, not his résumé, that truly defined John. He had a rare gift — he could see people more deeply than most. His ability to listen, to understand, and to meet others exactly where they were left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He taught his family not just how to think, but how to be — to be loving, to be humble, and to always keep growing. To him, it was never too late to start over, say sorry, or learn something new.

John was fiercely proud of his children and grandchildren, whom he adored. As "Papa D," he offered unconditional love, snuggles, and a steady presence. He brought warmth to every room and laughter to every conversation.

He is survived by his children, Casey DeLorme, Keriann (Austin) DeLorme, and Shannon DeLorme, and by his treasured grandchildren, Caledon and Remington Lowenstein. He is also remembered by extended family and close friends who will miss him deeply.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 19, 2025, at 5:00 PM at The Stutson House in Rochester, NY. Family reflections will begin at 5:30 PM, followed by food, drinks, and shared memories — just the way John would have wanted.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in John’s honor to Hope & Heroes, or consider a simple act of kindness when he next crosses your mind. 

John's final and fitting advice was: "It's always worth it to slow down and choose kindness."That would mean more to him — and to us — than anything.

John leaves behind a legacy of incredible strength, love, laughter, brilliance, and the powerful reminder to slow down, be kind, and never stop growing.
