JOHN DIMITRIADIS – LOVING HUSBAND, FATHER, PAPOU AND FRIEND
It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts, that we share that John Dimitriadis, a resident of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, passed away on August 15, 2024, at the age of 87. John was born on August 31, 1936, one of four siblings, from a small village named Drymades located in Ioannina which is the Epirus Region of Greece. He later moved to Athens, Greece where he began his career working in accounting. Thereafter, he met his wife Maria and together they started a family. It wasn't until April 1972, that John, his wife, and two daughters, boarded a plane for a courageous journey to explore the United States of America. They left their entire family and belongings back home in Athens, Greece, and with only one luggage, John and the family landed in Detroit, Michigan to start a new life.
Although the biggest hurdle was understanding the English language, over time, John was able to navigate and work in various jobs until he became an entrepreneur. Both he and his wife started a commercial cleaning company called Maria's Quality Cleaning. He spent the majority of his life both running and working the company which allowed for a comfortable and joyful life.
Most of all, John loved his faith, family, and friends. He and his family were active members of St. John's Greek Orthodox Church in Sterling Heights, MI. He had the kindest soul, was wonderfully humble, and was always happy about life. His greatest love was his wife, daughters, and the five grandchildren. The word "NO" was never part of his vocabulary. He loved helping his daughters and taking the grandkids to all their activities. John especially loved soccer. His favorite team was the Panathinaikos Football Club or PAO, which is a Greek professional soccer club based in Athens, Greece. Their logo was the green shamrock, and John always had something around the house to support his team. John's favorite quote was "that's the life", and he truly embraced those words whenever any challenges crossed his path.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Gregory and Eleni Dimitriadis; his sisters Aphrodite Kouros and Persephone Dimitriadis. Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years Maria; his sister Evgenia Katsimarthos. His daughter Ellen Mitchem and her two sons Gregory and John Mitchem. His daughter Giorgia Anderson (Mark) and their three children Jonathan, Andrew, and Maryssa Anderson. John will greatly be missed but forever remembered as the most loving, caring, and humble person on this earth. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Amen.
The Funeral Service will take place Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 11AM at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 760 W Wattles Rd., Troy, MI 48098. Visiting will begin at 10AM. Burial will follow at White Chapel Cemetery.
