John Gregor Doman

John Gregor Doman Sr., known to all as Greg, was born on July 11, 1938, and passed peacefully on January 26 at the age of 87. He leaves behind a legacy defined by leadership, entrepreneurship, loyal friendship, and unwavering devotion to his family.

Greg grew up in Whiting, Indiana, where he developed the strong work ethic, resilience, and sense of purpose that guided him throughout his life. He attended Indiana University, a chapter he remained especially proud of-not least because it was there that he met the love of his life and future wife, Judi (née Clabaugh). The couple remained in Bloomington while Greg earned his MBA, forming a partnership that became the foundation of both his personal happiness and professional success.

Greg spent his entire corporate career at Container Corporation of America, where he earned deep respect as a thoughtful, steady, and effective leader. His accomplishments included leadership roles in national sales and serving as General Manager of Container's folding carton plant in Carol Stream, Illinois. Known for his integrity, strategic insight, and genuine ability to connect with people at every level, Greg left a lasting impression on the organization and on the many colleagues fortunate to work alongside him.

Beyond his corporate career, Greg was an entrepreneur at heart. Together with Judi, he built Door County Confectionery, which grew into a leading retail business in Door County, Wisconsin. He also joined four lifelong friends from Whiting to create Founder's Square, a retail complex in Fish Creek, Wisconsin. These ventures reflected not only Greg's business acumen and creativity, but also his deep love of community and place. They became gathering spots for others and a lasting source of pride for his family.

Above all else, Greg was a family man. He was preceded in death by his wife Judi, whom he loved deeply. He is survived by his sister, Susanne Ledbetter; his three children, John Gregor Doman Jr. (Karen), Ericka Arbour (Michael), and Kurt Doman (Julie); and his eight grandchildren-Sydney and Morgan Doman; Jake, Ryan, and Griffin Arbour; and Hannah, Matt, and Emy Doman. Greg took immense joy in his children and grandchildren and was deeply proud of each of them.

Greg will be remembered for his steady presence, quiet confidence, natural generosity, and loyal friendship. He led by example, valued relationships above all else, and leaves behind a legacy carried forward by his family, the businesses he built, and the many lives he touched.

A Celebration of Life will be held privately with Greg's family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or Friends of Peninsula State Park, in honor of Greg's values and his lifelong love of Door County, Wisconsin.
