John Doney Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Messinger Mortuaries- Indian School Mortuary on Oct. 24, 2025.
John Calvin Doney, 86, of Scottsdale, Arizona, passed peacefully on September 26, 2025. Born in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, on June 17, 1939, John lived a full life grounded in faith, family, service, and an enduring love of the outdoors.
He was the son of Margaret Magner Doney and Henry Emerson Doney, Sr.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Henry Emerson Doney, Jr., and is survived by his brother, David Jeruel Doney.
John is also survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Sally McCarty Doney, and their three children: John Charles Doney (Misty), Rachel Elizabeth Peterson (Kurt), and Jessica Ann Doney. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Logan Claire Hubbard (Edmund) and Sloane Kathleen Peterson, and two great-grandsons, Warren Rhode Hubbard and Jack Kelly Hubbard.
A graduate of Indiana State Teachers College in Indiana, Pennsylvania, John earned degrees in mathematics and science and was a member of ROTC, later serving honorably in the United States Army. His service reflected a deep sense of patriotism and duty that remained a defining thread throughout his life. He earned his M.B.A. from Loyola University of Chicago.
John spent much of his professional career with the Dial Corporation and Diversey, where his professionalism, leadership, and curiosity took him around the world-traveling both for business and for pleasure.
A longtime member of Mountain View Presbyterian Church, John served faithfully as an elder, a Stephen Minister, and a committed member of the church choir. His faith guided every season of his life and inspired those who knew him.
John loved the outdoors, especially hiking in the desert and the Grand Canyon, where he found renewal and peace in its vast beauty.
John's life was marked by discipline, strength, and steadfast love. He led with integrity and lived with purpose. To know him was to know reliability, deep faith, and enduring devotion-to his country, his family, and his God.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date at Mountain View Presbyterian Church in Scottsdale, Arizona.
