John Andrew Dotterweich, 59, died August 10, 2024 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Wayne, NJ after a lengthy illness. John was born in Glen Ridge, NJ on September 7, 1964, grew up in Clifton, NJ and lived in West Orange before moving to Allamuchy Township nearly 20 years ago.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Elaine (Cariou) in 2011.
He was the son of the late Margaret (nee Koval) and the late William J. Dotterweich.
He is survived by his brother William B. Dotterweich and wife Alice (Albano) of Ringwood, sister-in-law Lynn (Cariou) and husband John Bruggermann of Wykoff, sister-in-law Stacy (Cariou) and husband Robert DeGeyter of Elmwood Park, brother-in-law John Cariou of Wayne, his beloved nieces and nephews Ashley, John, Connor, Julianne, Kimberly, Joshua, and great-niece Eloise, numerous cousins, and the many friends and devoted work colleagues he considered to be his extended family.
John had a Masters degree in Environmental Science and was a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager. He worked for the NJ Department of Environmental Protection since 1988, spent the majority of his career with the Hazardous Waste Enforcement Group as an Inspector, was promoted to Environmental Scientist, and officially became the Sampling and Training Coordinator for the NJDEP's Compliance and Enforcement Program. He also worked for the NJ Department of Transportation as a volunteer snowplow operator during the winter months. In his "spare" time, John loved working on his farm and caring for his many animals.
A memorial service/celebration of life will take place 2-4pm on Saturday September 7th at the Allwood Funeral Home, 660 Allwood Road, Clifton, NJ 07012.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Eleventh Hour Rescue, PO Box 218, Rockaway, NJ 07866 would be appreciated.
