John Dowd Obituary

John P. Dowd, Jr.

July 12, 1944 - October 28, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce that John P. Dowd Jr. passed away peacefully on October 28, 2024, at the age of 80. John was born on July 12, 1944 in Indianapolis, IN, to John P. Dowd Sr. and Rosemary (Nee Feltz) Dowd.

John moved to NJ with his family in 1959, where he met the love of his life, Linda (Nee DaGrossa) Dowd with whom he shared 61 years of marriage. John was a loving and giving husband, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Preceded in joining the Lord: Mother & Father, John and Rosemary Dowd; Sister, Patricia Ann (nee Dowd) Wellington.

Survived by: wife Linda Dowd; sons John P. Dowd III (Tracy) and James Dowd (Carol); grandsons Bryon Rodriguez Dowd (Jennifer), Mathew Dowd (Chris) and Kevin Dowd; great-grandson Finn James Rodriguez Dowd; brother Fredrick Dowd (Maria); and several loving nephews, cousins and in-laws.

John Graduated from Pleasantville HS and attended Stevens Institute of Technology. He worked as a field engineer for National Cash Register (NCR) for 37 years and then a second career at the William J. Hughes Technical center for 20 years. He was a brilliant man whom everyone looked to for answers and he was always happy to help and mentor

people.

John led a life of service to his community and his church. He was a district deputy for the Knights of Columbus as well as a former Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator. He taught Sunday school and served as a eucharistic minister. John served as both president and member of the EHT school board. He coached Little League Baseball for many years. As a young man, John served as president of the Pleasantville Democratic Club.

John loved his wife and family above all else and enjoyed many hobbies. He traveled extensively with Linda in the US and around the world. John especially enjoyed traveling throughout Ireland (5 times) and to his condo in Myrtle Beach, SC. He enjoyed going out to restaurants, reading, history, doing crossword puzzles and computers. John built a personal computer from a kit in1976 and was one of the first pc user group members. He tired of doing things really well so he took up golf in his later years, but enjoyed it very much, especially playing with his family and in church outings.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place at St. Katharine Drexel Parish Church 6077 English Creek Avenue Egg Harbor Township, NJ 08234 on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at 11 a.m. A gathering of friends and family will be held at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the mass at the church. Inurnment will be private.

Donations in order to support the local Community and Parishioners in need may be made in his memory to The Society of St. Vincent DePaul care of St. Katharine Drexel Parish 6077 English Creek Avenue Egg Harbor Township, NJ 08234.

Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers for John and the
