John Dycus Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wilson Funeral Homes - Ringgold Chapel on Mar. 20, 2026.
John David Dycus, 79, of Ringgold, Georgia, passed away at home on March 18, 2026.

David lived in the Ringgold area most of his life. He was a member of Ringgold First Baptist Church and attended Friendship Primitive Baptist Church. He graduated from Ringgold High School in 1964, where he played football, baseball, and basketball. His love for sports continued into adulthood, where he coached girls' and women's softball teams.

He was married to his beloved wife, Dianne, for 62 years. The two met in middle school and remained sweethearts throughout their lives. David loved and cared deeply about his family, including his treasured dogs, Little Man and Bear.

He owned and operated Hamilton Glass Company, based in Dalton, Georgia. After retiring, he and Dianne spent time yearly in Florida in their RV. David enjoyed golfing both there and at Battlefield Golf Club in Ringgold, where he was a member. He loved spending time outdoors, especially on the coast. He held a U.S. Coast Guard Master Captain license and enjoyed offshore fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elisha David Dycus and Virginia Taliaferro Dycus.

Survivors include his wife, Dianne Peters Dycus; daughters, Cherise (Greg) Dycus and Keri (Dustin) Deal; siblings, Linda Clark, Wanda Cordell, and Donald (Vickie) Dycus; grandchildren, Hunter (Brooke) Sharrock, Kylea (Davis) Eldridge, Chappel (Christopher) Thornton, and Bradley and Daisha Dycus; and great-grandchild, Eleanor Eldridge. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, 2026. On Monday, March 23, 2026, the family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral service. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 12:00 noon on Monday, March 23, 2026, with Elder R. Wayne Peters officiating. Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens in Ringgold.
