John J. Engler Jr., 87, of Toledo, OH went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 2, 2025 in Waterville, OH. John was born on April 14, 1938 to John J. Engler Sr. And Louise (Beaudrey) Engler in Toledo, OH. John attended Clay High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1963 and he obtained his GED while serving. John married Jane Charles on April 22, 1967 and she survives.
John worked as a line worker for Jeep Corporation in Toledo for many years. He enjoyed coin and stamp collecting, NASCAR, reading newspapers, coffee and anything related to history. He collected and enjoyed Old Model Cars. John was an avid football fan including the Green Bay Packers, Ohio State and New England Patriots. John also attended Liberty Baptist Church in Toledo with his wife Jane.
John is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Jane Engler; children, Beverly (Donald) Phillips, Elmore, OH, Rachel Pittenger, Greenwich, OH, Sarah (Todd) Heath, Toledo, OH; grandchildren, Rebekah, Michaiah, Marissa (Derek), Joshua, Jeremiah, Hannah, Josiah, Christian, Joel, Jonathan; great grandchildren, Greyson and Iyla and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Helen Harmon, Robert “Bob” Engler, James “Jim” Engler, Loretta Billard; son-in-law, Roger Pittenger.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, May 10, 2025 from 10-11 a.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St. Fremont, OH 43420.
A Graveside service will take place following visitation at 11:30 a.m. at Greenlawn Memory Gardens in Clyde with military honors provided by the VFW and American Legion.
Memorials can be made in his honor to the family.
The family would like to sincerely thank the Aviva Glendale and Alexis Gardens for their outstanding care and support they provided to John. Their kindness and professionalism is appreciated.
