John Evanoff Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wasik Funeral Home - Warren on Jan. 7, 2026.
John "Jack" Evanoff, of Warren, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2026, at the age of 72. He was born July 1, 1953 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Samuel and Helen Evanoff. Beloved husband of Sandra. Loving father of Ian (Michael Barton) Evanoff. Dearest brother of Janet (Theodore Wells) Lawrence. Dear uncle of Nicole (David) Sovis. Also survived by many loving friends and family members.

Jack was a fixture of Michigan industry, spending 28 years at Detroit Diesel. He took great pride in his work, embodying the "Motor City" spirit through his reliability and work ethic. When he wasn't hard at work, Jack was a fervent supporter of his hometown teams. Whether it was the Lions on a Sunday afternoon, the Tigers in the summer, or Pistons and Red Wings, Jack was a true-blue Detroit sports fan.

While his career was in industry, his passion was in the gym. In a beautiful twist of fate, it was his beloved wife, Sandra, who first introduced him to the world of gymnastics. What began as a shared interest quickly became a lifelong calling. Over a remarkable 40 year career of coaching gymnastics, Jack touched the lives of hundreds of athletes. His expertise eventually led him to the University of Michigan, where he coached at the collegiate level, helping athletes reach their full potential. Jack was a well-loved man who touched lives of countless people through the years, and will be truly missed by all who knew him.
