John served in Korea, from 1952 to 1953, in the United States Army. When he returned home, he married Eileen Murphy on June 12, 1954. They were married for 71 years.
In 1965, John bought the firm of J. Albert Gleason in Yonkers, NY, which started his Independent Insurance Agency. John was elected a Director of The NY State Association of Insurance Agencies. John and Eileen enjoyed traveling, especially to Ireland, where they had many relatives and John played some of the great golf courses.
John was the very best kind of man. One of our granddaughters said: "Our grandfather has set the bar high for us".
John encouraged his grandchildren to play golf and to "follow through" with their swing. He also taught them to "keep your head down" while riding the waves on the beach by their summer home in Narragansett, RI.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Eileen Murphy Faley; four devoted children, Kevin G. Faley (Beth), Michael G. Faley (Kathy), Maryanne Neary (John Ogden) and Eileen Carroll; his brother, Gerald Faley; ten loving grandchildren, Roland, Timothy, Kevin, Cara, Joanna, Caitlin, John William, Molly, John V. and Erin; and five cherished great-grandchildren, Reagan, Landon, Poppy, Brynn and Sadie.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved son, John Timothy Faley (Susan); his sons-in-law, James Carroll and Russell Neary; his brother, James Faley; his sister, Patricia O'Neill; and many dear friends and relatives.
John will be remembered for his love and commitment to his wife, devotion to his family and dedication to his church. A kind, strong, generous man, he will be missed by all who knew him.
'We wish we could have had a longer time with you, but the time we had could not have been better."
