Obituary of John P Farrell
Mr. John P. "Jack" Farrell, of Utica passed away peacefully at the age of 90, at the Utica Rehabilitation and Nursing, Utica.
Jack was born in Utica on February 17, 1934, the son of the late John and Margaret (Pizzimente) Farrell. He was raised and educated in Utica graduating from Utica Free Academy. After high school he continued his education at Utica College receiving a master's in electrical engineering. Jack proudly served with the US Army and was honorably discharged. On October 23, 1959, Jack was united in marriage to Shirley J. Hellstrom, a loving and devoted union of 45 years, until Shirley's passing on April 11, 2004. Jack worked at Griffiss Air Force Base as an Electrical Engineer for many years, then was employed by the Illinois Institute of Technology until his final retirement. Jack was an avid fisherman, enjoyed racquetball and doing crosswords in his spare time. He was also a Yankees fan and enjoyed his time at camp with his family and friends.
Mr. Farrell is survived be his daughter Melissa Olmstead, Clinton, his sons John Farrell and his wife Rose, Double Springs, AL, William Farrell and his wife Kimbrely, Utica, sister Margaret Olko, Utica, five grandchildren Billy, Ashley, Bianca, John, Michelle and several nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his parents John and Margaret, his beloved wife Shirley, sister Nancy Farrell and son-in-law Jeffrey Olmstead.
Funeral services are going to private and at the convenience of the family. Jack will be laid to rest with his wife Shirley in Calvary Cemetery, Oneida Street, Utica.

Always the best memories of camping at Edgewater in Sylvan Beach spending many hours with Jack. Always enjoyed our Southern Comfort manhattans together. We all cared about him and loved him. He was a true friend!
