John Patrick Finnegan, age 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 26, 2025.
John graduated from St. Vincent DePaul H. S. Seminary (Lemont, IL) and earned his philosophy degree from DePaul University. A true original, John left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He had a thirst for knowledge and he loved being alive. He owned and operated the family business, Prime Food Caterers, for many years. An explorer to the end, John traveled to over 65 countries in his lifetime, 28 of which he visited in the last ten years with his partner Anya.
John is survived by his partner Anya Aker; his three children, Kara Leigh Finnegan, James "Jim" Christopher Finnegan, and Eric Andrew Finnegan; his adoring grandson Bodhi Carlos Echevarria; and his siblings Timothy "Tim" (Christine) Finnegan, Roseann (Terry) LeFevour, Robert (Laura) Finnegan, and Thomas "Tom" (Dorie) Finnegan. John was the proud uncle of many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by parents James Francis "Jim" Finnegan and Mary Elizabeth Finnegan (nee Nolan), brother Michael Finnegan; aunt Sister Bernadita Finnegan, BVM, and niece Jean Marie Finnegan.
The visitation for John will be Thursday, January 30, at Old St. Patrick's Church, 700 West Adams, Chicago, IL at 4.p.m. with a funeral mass immediately following at 5 p.m.
