John Edgar Finstad passed away peacefully at home on July 22, 2025 surrounded by his daughter, Jona who spoiled him rotten, Mandy, Janey, and the hospice chaplain. 

John was born in Clifton, Texas to parents Edgar Clarence Finstad and Jewel Blanche Sparks. He grew up in Cranfills Gap, Texas where he attended church at St. Olaf Lutheran, where he was baptized and confirmed in his youth. He attended school in the Gap and graduated from Cranfills Gap High School in 1963. Those who knew John were well aware that he never met a stranger because of his kind spirit. He always had a smile and a hug for everyone he met. John had a love of motorcycles and he enjoyed many years riding them. He loved to eat fish. John had a special love for the outdoors, he loved gardening and working in the yard. He always loved sitting on his deck surrounded by his flowers, just watching the birds and butterflies and being blessed by the quietness of nature. John will be missed by so many who knew and loved him. 

John was preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Jewel, brother Jeff Finstad, step-daughter Dana Jorgenson and Martin Jorgenson II and brother-in-law, Dan Ivey. He is survived by daughters Jona Finstad and Darla Woods, step-daughter Mandy Ringo and husband Les; step-son Will MacKenzie; sisters Janey Ivey, Judy Johnson and husband Rudy. Grandchildren, who loved him dearly, Will Hubbard and wife Tori, Tiffany Finstad, Nathan Ringo and wife Chelsie, Alex Ringo, Jason Ringo, Kelsey Ringo and Hunter Ringo. John also had many great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends that loved him and will truly miss him. 

Celebration of Life will be held at 10 am, Saturday August 2, 2025 at the Bosque County Cowboy Church at 7023 Hwy 6, Meridian, TX 76665. The church will be supplying meat and drinks for a meal after the service; everyone is invited to bring a side dish and enjoy the meal with John’s family.

Memorials may be made to the Bosque County Child Welfare Board.
