John and JoAnne "Jody" Flint, of Charles City, Iowa, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2024.
A gathering of family and friends to remember their lives will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City, Iowa.
John Eugene Flint was born August 16, 1939 to John S Flint and Fae Albaugh Flint.
JoAnne Kay Dashner Flint was born December 12, 1938 to Claire Dashner and Eathel Cloyed Dashner
John and Jody were married on July 11, 1963 and they were off and running. John first practiced veterinary medicine in Parkersburg with Jody as his office staff. It didn't take long before Jody went out on her lunch break and returned to the office with a teaching job.
Jody said that they blew into Charles City shortly after the tornado in 1968. John practiced vet medicine out of their garage and in the kitchen of their home on tenth avenue. Jody told of heating a cake pan in the oven and as puppies were delivered by C-section, they were wrapped in cloth and placed in the warm pan. They moved across town where they stayed while the big house was being built. A notable event during these years has to be John blowing up the vet van. There are pictures of a heavily bandaged Dr. Flint wandering the hospital hallways.
John and Jody were lifetime learners. Jody earned her Master's degree and John's advanced learning roamed the pasture. They made a point to learn something new on every trip. At this point they were firmly entrenched in the community. They were active in many civic groups, hosted teachers and a fellow veterinarian from Japan for extended periods in their home. Jody started a 4-H group called Llove those Llamas that used her own llamas. She loved her 4-H club members and was proud of each one.
John and Jody were passionate about helping others. They were part of two mission trips to Peru along with others from their home church Trinity United Methodist Church. They were instrumental in bringing a Pastor and his family to the United States. John volunteered for two mission trips to Haiti where locals would walk their farm animals to his impromptu clinic under a tree. John and Jody opened their hearts to new people and experiences. They expanded their family nearly everywhere they visited.
John and Jody led full and meaningful lives and they did it on their own terms. They will be missed by many including: their son, James Flint and granddaughters, Tierney Flint-Gohn, Alayna Flint, Keeli Flint and great grandson, Leon Flint. Chris and Nancy Dashner and their children, Robert (Lisa) and children Ryan, Callum, Elizabeth and Francine. Jonathan Dashner and Jennifer (Ryan)Nestle and their daughter, Joanna. Mary Edson and family. Dennis and Kim Rouse, and Jody's much-loved dog Gatsby is living the rest of his days as a Flint/Rouse. Granddaughter, Pamela Benge and great-grandchildren, Landon Benge, Beau Benge, Tate Benge and Addilyn Benge.
Memorials directed to the Floyd County Museum would make Jody smile.
