Obituary of John Walter Flynn
John Walter Flynn, Sr., 82, died peacefully in his sleep at his home on December 6, 2023. Born on August 15, 1941 on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, John was a steadfast New Yorker. Even after living in Alaska for 16 years, John never lost his accent, nor his love of the Mets, Yankees, and meatball parmigiana sandwiches. He was always quick with a joke and liked to tease those he loved most. In his working years, John enjoyed driving all over Manhattan making deliveries for various bakeries, butchers and print shops. His favorite pastimes were watching sports, reading the NY Post, and listening to music, especially Tony Bennett and Frankie Valli.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Cassian Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at 10:00 am (187 Bellevue Avenue, Upper Montclair, NJ 07043). Visitation is on Monday, December 11, 2023 at the Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home from 6:00 - 8:00 pm (76 Park St., Montclair, NJ, 07042).
He is survived by his son, John Jr. and his wife Marlene, his daughter Doreen Rearden and her husband Joseph, his daughter Nicole Fischetti, and his ex-wife Jane Magrino (DiPietro). He is also survived by his loving grandchildren: Nastasia, Jacy Matthea Poland and her husband Garrison, Mary Elizabeth, Julia Grace, Sierra, Aidan, and Phoenix, and his brand new great-granddaughter, Carsyn Elizabeth. He also leaves behind treasured nieces and nephews: Joseph and Laura Tancredi, Barbara and Debbie O'Hara, Debbie Kedmi, Laura McKeta, Jeanette Kubler-Ross, and many more.
He is predeceased by his beloved granddaughter, Carmella Elizabeth, his parents, John and Margaret (Danaher), his brother Frank, his sister Joan, and his cousin and partner in crime, Joseph Tancredi, Sr.
