Sarah C. Abernathy was born on April 16, 1953, in Lunenburg, Virginia, to the late Edward I. Abernathy and Maud Virginia Abernathy. On Wednesday, August 13, 2025, she entered into eternal rest in Montclair, New Jersey.

Sarah was a proud graduate of Montclair High School, Class of 1971. She continued her education at Essex County College, where she earned her Associate's Degree. Driven and ambitious, Sara went on to own her own insurance business, later becoming a top agent with Allstate. She eventually expanded her career by obtaining her real estate license, working with ST Allen Realty.

Sarah's life was defined by her love for family, community, and people. She joyfully volunteered her time at the local food pantry, where her warm smile and kind spirit made everyone feel cared for. She was a woman of style, known for her love of fashion-and her favorite pastime was shopping, shopping, and more shopping! Sarah also delighted in cooking, especially during the holidays, when her meals brought the family together in celebration and love.

She had a gift for laughter and connection, whether through sending funny emojis or talking on the phone for hours-always adding, "Oh, one more thing before I hang up," before moving on to the next story. These little joys made her presence unforgettable.

Sarah was preceded in death by her parents and her oldest brother, Edward Jr.

She leaves behind cherished memories with her siblings: Raymond (Starling), Virginia, Mellilo, Effie (Allan), Theodore (Rene), Tibet (sister-in-law), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Sarah's radiant spirit will be deeply missed. She was, and always will be, a shining light in the lives of all who loved her.
