John Frevert

John Alan Frevert, of Whitesburg, Georgia, passed away on May 13, 2025, at the age of 63. Born on October 31, 1961, in Lansing, Michigan, to Rev. Dr. Albert and Beverly Frevert, John was baptized in the United Methodist Church by his father.
He is survived by his brother, Mark Frevert; sister, Rebecca Davidson, and her husband, Richard; nieces, Tonya Weiss and Katie Skolnekovich; nephew, Rick Davidson; great-niece, Jordan Weiss; and great-nephew, Aiden Weiss. He will be deeply missed by family, lifelong friends, and many others whose lives he touched.
A gifted musician and compassionate counselor, John lived a life of creativity, empathy, and service. He graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy in 1980 with a major in music and treasured his lifelong connection to the Academy. He earned a B.A. from DePauw University in 1984, followed by a Master's degree in Psychology and an Ed.S. in Community Counseling from the University of West Georgia. He became a licensed professional counselor in 1992.
John served as an inpatient therapist at Tanner Medical Center and in private practice, and for 31 years he worked at the Counseling and Career Development Center at the University of West Georgia. He was deeply committed to helping others and was known for his warmth, insight, and sense of humor. John mentored many, and his legacy will live on through those mentorships.
A talented multi-instrumentalist, John performed as a pianist, cellist, and saxophonist, including concerts at Carnegie Hall and tours across Europe. His love for classical music remained a lifelong joy.
John had a special bond with animals and never turned away a stray-animal or human. His beloved pets, Homer, Gretta, and Sweedle, were dear companions.
John had many passions-reading, cooking, nature, and helping others. He supported wildlife and environmental causes and cherished spending Christmas with family in snowy Colorado.
He believed in the goodness of people and lived as a true friend to all. His legacy of kindness, humor, wisdom, and music will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
In accordance with John and the family's wishes, there will be a family celebration at a later date in Michigan.
