John Fruguglietti Obituary

Published by Bakersfield Californian from Feb. 10 to Feb. 11, 2011.
John Phillip "J.P." Fruguglietti February 2, 1983 - February 8, 2011 John Phillip Fruguglietti could light a room with his smile and warm it with his laughter. J.P.'s charm was legendary -- as was his loyalty to his family and friends. Just four months ago he married Ashley Whitney, the love of his life. Early Tuesday morning a tragic accident took him from Ashley, his family, and all of us who loved him. John Phillip had just turned 28 years old. J.P. was the first child born to Ralph and Anne Fruguglietti and the first grandchild born to Phillip and Roberta Zachary and he was adored and doted upon from the day of his birth. Some of the biggest "doters" were his aunts -- Jane Zachary, Melinda Zachary Martin and Susan Zachary Mulligan. As the years went by and more babies were born J.P. became the fearless leader of a band of siblings (Anthony, Katina and Theresa) and 17 cousins. Through harrowing adventures and amusing escapades J.P. managed to "never leave a man behind." To the other kids in the family he became, and remained, the epitome of "cool." John Phillip attended North Kern Christian School in Wasco followed by Bakersfield Christian High School. He was a stand-out athlete and one of the few defensive players to ever be named Most Valuable Player of the BCHS football team. He was also a top competitor in track and field, winning discus competitions up and down the state. He continued to compete in track for Bakersfield College and then Cal State University Bakersfield. J.P. loved his wife completely, but there was one more "woman" in his life -- his 1-year-old niece Sofie Grace Fruguglietti. In fact, after he was given a T-shirt with Sophie's picture and the words "I love My Uncle J.P." on it, it was very difficult to get him to wear anything else. J.P. worked for many years for the family restaurant -- Frugatti's Italian Eatery. Always poised under pressure, when a Frugatti's customer started choking one night, J.P. used the Heimlich Maneuver to save him. This experience was so meaningful for him he decided to begin training to become an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). But more important than any professional occupation was who he was as a person; a person who would drop everything to help someone he loved. Whether it was a depressed friend or an aunt with pneumonia, J.P. was right there, ready to do what he could to make things better. Over the past several months J.P. played a key role in caring for his beloved grandfather through a terminal illness. What sustains us through our loss is the knowledge that J.P. and his "Gampy" are together again, only waiting for us to join them. John Phillip is survived by his wife, Ashley; parents, Ralph and Anne Fruguglietti; his grandmother Roberta Zachary: his brother Anthony Fruguglietti, wife Ashley and daughter Sofie; his sister Katina Fruguglietti Esposito, and husband Jessey; sister Theresa Fruguglietti; aunt Jane Zachary; aunt Susan Mulligan and husband Mike; aunt Melinda Martin and husband Greg; aunt Lisa Lindgren and husband Jeff; aunt Lina and uncle Paul Rago; brother-in-law, J.C. Whitney. He is also survived by cousins Zachary Colbert, Rachel Colbert, Macdonald Colbert, Andrew Martin, Robbie Martin, Caroline Martin, Luke Martin, Mackenzie Mulligan, Oliver Mulligan, Kaley Mulligan, Cameron Mulligan, Kristina Mulligan, Jacob Mulligan, Phillip Mulligan, Fernando Mulligan, Brian Lindgren, Jason Lindgren, Katy Lindgren, Rosann Maddon and Alfred Rago. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Congregational Bible Church of Shafter, 430 E. Tulare Avenue, Shafter, CA 93263. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 12, at 11am at Congregational Bible Church, Shafter. Thinking of your family

February 2, 2013

Happy Birthday JP! We miss you very much but we know you are happy and safe.

February 22, 2011

I am so shocked and saddened by this news. I know how much JP meant to his whole family, especially his younger Martin cousins. We were just talking only in January at a family gathering about how cute JP and Anthony were at the Melinda-Greg wedding! He had an energy and a spirit that will live on in his family members. Much love, Mary Martin (Greg's sister)

Ralph,Anne and family,
So sorry for your loss.
One of my favorite old songs...Farther along we'll know all about it...farther along we'll understand why....we'll understand it all by and by.
Praying that your faith will see you through this until you can once again see J.P.

I cant believe you are gone... I have so many wonderful memories. Thank you for each and everyone one of them. I cherish your memory and thank you for everything you taught and did for me. I think of you and smile often, always have and always will.

Ill remember you anytime I see a person use hand signals while driving, or smell the smoke of Djarum Blacks. Anytime I hear Tammy Wynette sing "Stand by your Man" I know you sing it better. But putting all the happy little quirky things I see that remind me of such an original person aside... know that I remember you as one of the kindest and caring people in the world. You always had a genuine interest in everyone, and that is why you were loved by everyone that ever met you.

Your presence lit up a room, and your since of humor was one of a kind. Some of my best memories are of boogie board weekend, and remembering how everyone just adored you. Even on the trip when you broke your collar bone!

I cant believe Im typing this to you... but Rest in Peace my friend!

Ralph, Anne and Family,
I cannot begin to imagine what your family, including J.P.'s wife are going through right now. My prayers are with you. I definitely agree with others comments about the joy that J.P. Always emanated to others. While I have been gone from Bakersfield many years, I will always consider J.P. a wonderful friend who certainly gave the best hugs ever! He was also a wonderful friend over the years to my niece Stephanie, for which I will always be thankful. As a wife and parent, I'm praying for a Peace and strength that can only come from God during a time like this! J.P. You will be forever missed!

Dear Fruguglietti family,
Although it has been several years since I have seen JP I still think of him often and smile. I feel lucky to have known him while he was in Georgia. He was a handful in the best possible way. While he jokingly called me his Georgia mom he always talked about his real family and how much he missed them. I cannot imagine your loss but you are all in my thoughts.

Ralph, Anne and family: What a shock to hear and read of your tremendous loss. At times as these words are always at a loss and seem so inadequate to comfort. I will always remember him as the striking strong young man who came to 24 hr fitness to work out with you early in the mornings. May you be comforted by the words of the Psalmist who instructs and encourages in Psalm 116:35; "Precious in the sight of the Lord is sthe death of His saints."

Ralph, Anne, Anthony and Ashley, Katina, Theresa, and Ashley-

You are all in my thoughts and prayers on this day and the days to come. JP was someone you couldn't help but love and we were all blessed to have had him in our lives no matter how brief it was. Its hard to imagine a world without JP in it because he was such an amazing person.

JP was so easy to love because he was so sweet, audacious, and genuinely caring. Nothing was better than a JP hug. We can all look forward to one of those hugs upon our arrival in heaven.

Love and care,

Fruguglietti family,

You have been in my prayers every day and night, and you will continue to be for years to come.

I always knew there was something "Special" about JP, it was evident to me after only being around him a few minutes that he had a good heart. He was a sweet person, which is such an understatement. I feel blessed to have known him at all. Your BCHS families are praying for you constantly. I trust that God will find a way to give you peace, and to remind you that our time here is so temporary; before long, you will all be with JP again.

Ashley- I am so happy that before JP left this earth, God wanted him to have the chance to experience marriage- and he choose you! What a special woman you must be. Stay strong beautiful.

Our sweet baby girl,we wish we could take away the pain, and to the Fruguglietti family whom we love so much. May God's peace that passes all understanding overtake you all. We wish we had more time with JP, but we remember taking him on a family vacation and he got road rash on the tobogan run, or how he was a big brother to our son JC. He took him out after a disappointing kick boxing tournament to cheer him up, or guys night out while Ashley was working, or teaching JC how to shoot a potato gun or do a back flip on the trampoline, or take JC to the go-cart racing track. We miss you son-in-love already.

Ralph & Anne,
To lose your first born child (or any of them for that matter) is beyond anything that we can comprehend. There are no words to express how sorry I am to hear of your son's passing. I am not in town and have had people call me and tell me the news today. I did not know J.P. other than when he used to bring back videos at F.M. but in reading his guest book I can see that he was a fabulous young man. I am not surprised, you two always set a great example. I will always remember when you were on the Soroptimist home tour the first thing I saw in your kitchen was a plaque that read "AS FOR ME & MY HOUSE WE SHALL SERVE THE LORD" Beyond sorry for your loss,

Uncle Ralph and Auntie Anne:

We will never forget JP as a little boy. When he was 6, he was the ringbearer at our wedding, and he was so cute! And 8 years later, we remember him as a teenager, dancing at Al and Julie's wedding, with our own little boy on his shoulders! Though the miles kept us from seeing JP more often, when we did see him, he was always a young man full of life and energy! Now he is with Papo and Noni. We will miss JP, but we will never forget him.

In Memory of JP

No one knows why some are given
...and some are taken
Why some are here for only a short time
...and some for a lifetime
We can only hold them while they are here
...loving them more year after year
And when they are taken quickly away
...we ask ourselves "why today?"
Our only comfort is knowing they are with our Lord above
...receiving the glory of His love
And as the pain is lessened and the healing starts
...we will hold their memories - forever - close to our hearts. ~ JR

February 10, 2011

Dearest Anne & Ralph, it is so difficult to process this and I know how hard this is on all of you. I have such loving thoughts and pictures in my mind of all the kids from the time they were born. JP was a beautiful boy and Heaven is going to welcome him with great fanfare! Thank the Lord for the years He has given you with JP and encircle his precious wife with your love as I know you will. We can't possibly know why someone is taken away so soon, but we can be thankful God is in control of everything in our lives and He will bring us thru this too. We have the assurance that JP is Praising the Lord for all eternity and we'll all meet again. My love to all of you and Ashley too. Let me know if there is anything I can do. Marilyn Young

Hi Ralph, Anne and family.
My prayers and love go out to you all. Ever since our girls were inseperable, I have felt a closeness with you guys. J.P. was a big part of that. He and I had such great talks at NKCS. He was such a wonderful young man. My prayer is that God lovingly hold you during this time of loss. I can't imagine your pain. We love you! Frank & Cindy Peters and family.

Fruguglietti Family-Ralph, Anne, Ashley, Anthony, Theresa and Katina.

The Dickinson Famliy are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of your loved one J.P. No words can express how very sad we are, for all of your family members during this tragic time.
Ken and our family got to know J.P. from Heather whom works at Fraggati's. I remember J.P.'s charming smile and love for life attitude, and would always make us feel welcome.
We have shared tears and laughter remembering, just what we will be missing of J.P. We are saddened he has been taken away so tragic and early in life. We have faith that the lords hands have welcomed him to a better place and family members awaiting his arrival to guide him in heaven. Our family prayer's for all of you during the days ahead that you will be blessed, for you to reach to any of us in need of help in any way we can, this is what Family and Friends are for....
We love you J.P. Ken, Jackie, Heather and Nick Dickinson.......

To the Fruguglietti Family,

I am so very saddened by the loss of such a bright, talented, and happy young man. JP definitely lite up the room when he entered. Everyone loved to be around JP because he made a bad day into a GREAT DAY, and he brought smiles to everyones faces. I had the privilege to have JP in my EMT Program at Bakersfield College. We became great friends as well away from school and my wife and I truly enjoyed our special times visiting JP, wife Ashley, and his sister Theresa at Frugatti's for dinner. We all have a void to fill inside of us that JP filled. Our prayers go out to you and your family during this very difficult time. JP will always be in our hearts and souls.

JP and I shared so many good times at BCHS both on and off the field, and his friendship and spirit were shared with the rest of his classmates. JP was one of the few people I've known in my life that really LOVED being around people and was always sincere when he asked you "How are you?" He always had a warm smile and a giant bear hug for me every time we would see each other over the years. His laugh was loud, boisterous, and infectious- JP loved life and lived it to the fullest. He will truly be missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Frugugliettis, his wife and her family in this difficult time. I pray that you find comfort and strength in God, each other, and the many people who loved JP and are lifting you up in prayer.

I will never forget the first time I met JP.. I was a new employee at Frugattis and it was my first week as a cashier when he came in to place his order.. He asked me if anyone else in the family has ordered food from me and if so how much they tipped I told him 5 dollars.. When his food was ready he handed me a 20 as he said with that grin he'd get when he thought he was being clever and witty "Now if anyone asks which Fruguglietti kid is your favorite what are you gonna tell them..." I quickly answered as I put the 20 in my pocket "oh well that's an easy one... Tiss. Thanks for the tip." Granted, I never got twenty dollars as a tip from him again but he never missed a moment to put a smile on my face as he did with everyone. My heart breaks for the fact that I wont get a chance to share anymore laughs with JP but I consider myself very lucky to have known him at all. Ralph and Anne I can't imagine what you guys are going through but I just want you to know you raised an amazing son who touched many people lives and we will all remember him for the loving, caring, silly guy he was. I love you guys.
