John D. Funneman, Sr., 74 of Green Creek, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2024.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Friday, May 24, 2024 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorial donations may be given to the donor's choice.
John was born July 13, 1949 in Effingham, the son of Louis and Anna (Hatke) Funneman. He married Maureen Gilligan on February 29, 1988 and she preceded him in death on September 26, 2009. John was a self-employed brick layer for many years. He loved all instruments, especially the fiddle. John loved history and enjoyed tractor pulls.
John is survived by his sons, John Jr. (Karen) of Upton, KY, Robert Lee of St. James, Randy (Karla) of Etna, and Andrew of Watson; daughters, Susan (James) Fleshner of Green Creek and Nancy (Jim) Dewey of DeSoto; seventeen grandchildren, Zachary (Jessica), Levi (Taylor), Payton (Davita), Michael, Makenna, Ashley, Faith, James Jr., Grace, Karlee, Amoryon, Alyssa, Luke, Eli, Emily, Elizabeth, and DaOwna; five great-grandchildren, with one on the way in October; brother, Larry (Theresa) Funneman of Teutopolis; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
John was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and his brothers, Dale, Richard, and Charles.
