John James Galvin, 87, died peacefully in Ridgewood, NJ on November 30, 2023. John was born on June 19, 1936, in New York City, the son of John and Mary Galvin. He was the third of their six children. He is preceded in death by his brothers Daniel, Patrick, James, and Edward. He is survived by his sister Kathleen, his beloved wife Deidre, his sons, George and John, their wives Beth and Mary, and his four grandchildren Natalie, Rylee, Sean, and John junior.
John was put on this earth to help people. Over forty-two (42) years of dedicated service as a Teacher, Counselor, and Mentor, John touched countless lives and made a difference in each. He was an avid reader and continued to learn throughout his life. He began his life of service with the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in high school and completed his undergraduate work at Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL, received a master's degree in counseling from Seton Hall, and a master's in mathematics from Fordham. He retired from Northern Highlands Regional High School in 2001.
The Viewing is scheduled for Monday December 4, 2023, from 2-5PM at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, New Jersey. The Funeral Mass will be the following day, Tuesday December 5, 2023, at the Church of Nativity, 315 Prospect Street Midland Park, New Jersey.
