John M. Garrett, 85, passed away at St. Peter's Hospice, Sunday, October 19, 2025. Born in Ontario, Canada, March 2nd, 1940. He was the son of the late Mary Josephine (Hickey) Garrett and James S. Garrett. He was the youngest of his siblings James . Garret Jr and sister Mary Ellen Fields.
John served in the United States from 1958-1963. He married Geraldine F. Shannon in 1963. She passed in 2013. He is also predeceased by his son Mark who passed on June 10, 2025. Geraldine and John had many friends from their church, Roessleville Presbyterian Church as well as being members of the session committee and treasurer for the church. John enjoyed woodworking, building bird houses with his father in law Walter. He loved traveling especially camping with his wife and children and all their extended family and friends.
John was a member of the Printing Industry for many years working for Fort Orange Press.
He is survived by his eldest son Todd and his grandkids, Sarah Garrett, Christian Garrett and Alina Garrett. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 from 12:30pm-1pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, NY 12205. A graveside service will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
