John Alan Giangregorio, 68, of Worcester passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2025, in the UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus after a brief illness.
John was born in Worcester to Ignatius J. and Lucille R. (Cursi) Giangregorio and lived in Worcester his entire life. He graduated from Holy Name Central Catholic High School and Nichols College.
He worked primarily in businesses connected to vehicle towing, maintenance and repair. He founded, owned and operated J.J. Towing which he named after his son; and worked at Standard Auto Wrecking Co., and as a manager at AAMCO Transmissions.
A great joy of his life was spending time with his grandchildren. Being a grandfather may have been the thing he was best at in life. He made it to every game, dance recital, birthday party, and was at the hospital at each of their births to help welcome them into the world. John loved to have some of them wait for the school bus at his house and then be dropped off there again after school. Any time he was able to spend with any of his ten grandchildren was a blessing.
He enjoyed spending time on his boat. He had many friends in and around Worcester, and was famous for his meatballs. One skill he had perfected was smoothly exiting social gatherings before anybody realized, a move known as "the slide".
John leaves his children, Colleen A. DeLeo of Leicester, Kerry E. Giangregorio and her fiancé Ryan Murphy of Auburn, and John "J.J." Giangregorio and his fiancée Julianna Bissonnette of Southbridge; their mother, Marianne E. (Leary) Giangregorio; 10 grandchildren who he adored, Tyler, Hailey, Serenity, Avalynne, Kaleigh, Joshua, Devin, Rylie, John and Emma; his mother, Lucille; his sister, Rita Innamorati and her husband Alexander of Westborough; a longtime friend; extended family and friends; and his cat Nikki.
He is predeceased by his son, William I. Giangregorio in 1986, and his father, Ignatius "Snizzy" Giangregorio last year.
John's family wishes to thank the staff at UMass, specifically the 4 West Unit, for their skilled and compassionate care for him over his last few days.
Calling hours will be held Friday, May 30, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral will be Saturday, May 31, with a service in the funeral home followed by burial in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John's name may be made to the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation, www.crohnscolitisfoundation.org.
