John (Jack) Shannon Gilman III

October 22, 1930 – February 10, 2026

John S Gilman III, age 95, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, at Bellamy Assisted Living, in Dover NH.

Born October 22, 1930 in Bradford / Haverhill MA. He attended schools in Bradford MA and Kingston NH. Son of the late John S Gilman II and Yvonne I. (LaPlume) Gilman.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy January 1948 serving eight years as ships Quartermaster. During the Korean Conflict, he saw duty aboard the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt CVB-42, Navigation Division and Staff Quartermaster for Commander Carrier Division Sixteen, U.S. Atlantic and Sixth Fleet.

He operated Jack's City Service Station and Tackle Shop at 56 Main Street, Kingston Lake.

Jack loved fishing, boating and the sounds and seasons from his family home on the shores of Kingston Lake (Great Pond) in Kingston NH.

He was employed for many years by the Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter NH. He managed the twin hockey rinks and worked the playing fields for the Athletic Department, retiring in 1991.

In 1970 he built his home with and for his family at 72 Crawley Falls Road, Brentwood NH. He and his wife Jennie would make this their home along with their two sons for over 50 years.

In addition to his parents, Jack is predeceased by his wife, Jennie F. Gilman; his sister Elaine M. O'Brien, and his brother -in-law, Thomas Landers.

Jack is survived by his two sons and daughter- in- laws John S. Gilman IV and his wife Marnie Gilman, and Jamie A. Gilman and his wife Maria Gilman; his grandsons, John (Jack) S. Gilman V and his wife Kristin Gilman, and Grant B. Gilman and his wife Melanie Kim; his great-granddaughter, Hazel Gilman; his sisters, Janet C. and her husband Charles Hartman, Claudia F. Landers, Lucy A. and her husband Rev. James Smith.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours.

A funeral service with military honor will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the First Congregational Church, 6 Church St., Kingston, NH.

A spring burial will take place at the Plains Cemetery, Kingston NH.
